As a kit, Specklepaw had a very carefree life. He was born as the only kit of the litter and due to this he was basically spoiled rotten by both his parents. He had already planned ahead at that time and almost decided to become a medicine cat apprentice but later dropped the idea because he felt like he wasn't ready for the responsibilities.

Not long before he became a student, his father was bitten by a snake and died shortly after. This scarred Specklepaw but he was determined not to let this affect his life and used this as motivation to train harder so his father's spirit could still be proud of him. He later realised that he still wasn't doing too good at his tasks and became determined to try harder, practicing with every chance he got. Although he's still not good at hunting, he's actually quite skilled when it comes to fighting and is looking foward to the day he can use his skills in battle.
